Offshore Wind Power
Structure Monitoring
SOIC established the procedure of evaluating the failure risk of offshore wind turbine support structures using FMEA by performing the technology development project “Upgrades in Operation and Maintenance Efficiency for Offshore Wind Farms” supported from Bureau of Energy, NREL 5MW offshore wind turbine and Upwind jacket type support structure from OC4 Research Project are adopted as the analysis target. By performing FMEA, the critical components and failure modes can be identified as the basis of structural monitoring planning. Then, the natural frequency analysis and measurements of jacket type support structure are performed, and the stress and corrosion protection monitoring prototype systems are developed accordingly. By the experimental verification, the suitability of this prototype system are verified, which establish a good foundation for the application to real structure monitoring planning in the future.
