Shihmen I Official Solar Vessel

The “Shihmen I” official solar vessel was tested at Shihmen Reservoir in September 21, 2012. Chia Shen Yu Marine ltd. acquired the bid and is assigned to the manufacture of the vessel, while the Ship and Ocean Industries R&D Center was responsible for vessel designs and technical supervision.
The vessel’s upper structure adopts an open and simple structure, innovative compared the conservative appearance of official vessels in the past and is equipped with formatted glass windows and colored solar panels. The vessel’s half-height observatory windows, which are extended from the top to bottom, allows passengers to have a direct contact with nature, and allowing the green-energy vessel to fully blend into the beauty of the natural environment.
- The vessel relies on two 20kW electric generators.
- Its power source comes from lithium iron phosphate batteries and it relies on shore power for battery charging.
- Solar panels are installed on the top of the deck as a supplementary power source.
- The vessel’s stern is installed with a 60HP outboard motor.
